The mic offers two polar patterns for different kinds of content. The cardioid polar pattern naturally minimizes room noise by focusing its audio capture on whatever is in front of the mic, keeping audio pickup of the back and sides of the capsule to a minimum. This is great for content creators who don't have fancy room treatment. Use the omnidirectional pattern, however, if you and a friend will be using the mic simultaneously. The Snowball comes with its own stand and USB cable, providing a driverless operation to ensure connectivity with your device right out of the gate—you won't need to download any additional software to have your computer recognize this microphone.

Multiple Pickup Patterns

The mic gives you the choice of cardioid or omnidirectional pickup patterns. Cardioid is great for untreated rooms, as it minimizes audio pickup behind and to the sides of the capsule. In omni, the mic will pick up sound from all sides, making it the better choice to pick up more than one person at a time.

Get Loud

If you're using the mic alone, and you're a loud person, you're in luck: there's a cardioid -10 dB pad mode, which attenuates the output of the mic by 10 dB. This means you can be louder without incurring horrible-sounding distortion.
